« About

I am a self-taught artist from east coast Canada. I've had a love of drawing since I could hold a pencil in my hand, and always had the innate urge to record memories, thoughts and observations. My father taught me how to use watercolours and colour mixing when I was a little girl. Dad was a natural artist, but rarely had a chance to paint due to the demands of raising and supporting a family. Art was always important to me growing up, but after graduating school, the "practicalities" of life got in the way.

My father passed away in 2016 and it wasn't until early 2017 that I finally picked up my paintbrush again - in his memory - after a 20-year unintentional hiatus from art. When I became re-acquainted with the beauty of watercolours, it felt like coming home. I still love being by the ocean or in the forest, but now with sketchbook and art kit in hand.

The majority of my art is inspired by flora and fauna native to Canada, as well as "salty" landscapes of the Maritimes, town-scapes and well-loved local establishments. Bird life is my particular happy place.

I am also a self-taught bookbinder. Since 2007, I've been making leather-bound journals and recently added leather-bound watercolour sketchbooks to my repertoire. My online shop is La Paperie & Cozy Handmade Journals and also on Etsy. Some local establishments carry prints of my artwork, handmade watercolour sketchbooks and journals.

Thanks for your interest and for joining me on my adventures in exploring nature with a paintbrush!
